MAERSK Essen has arrived at APM Terminals Lazaro Cardenas, Mexico on 30 January, Maersk has confirmed to the DCN.

“[Maersk Essen] will undergo standard discharge of damaged containers and weather-related repairs,” the company said in a statement.

“The vessel is scheduled to depart 12-16 February (subject to change) for Los Angeles, resuming regular TP6 string scheduled calls.”

Maersk Essen lost some 750 containers overboard on 16 January in heavy weather as it made its way from Xiamen to Los Angeles.

Drone footage seen by DCN shows extensive damage to at least six container stacks on the vessel’s deck. Containers were seen to be collapsed and several were hanging over the side of the ship.

The vessel was due to call at Los Angeles on 28 January. The Danish-flagged vessel was built in 2010 and has a capacity of 13,100 TEU. It is 366 metres long (LOA) with a width of 48.2 metres.
