ANTHONY COBB, an electrical apprentice at Gladstone Ports Corporation has competed in the Worldskills International Competition. He came 12th in his category of electrical instrumentation, competing alongside 1,600 other competitors over four days.
Mr Cobb, who was selected as a member of the Australian Skillaroo team in April, said intensive training camps and a great support network assisted in his preparations for Russia.
“I have been training for over 12 months in preparation for the competition, as well as travelling to training camps all over Australia,” he said.
“It was an amazing experience to be part of the Skillaroo squad and 45th WorldSkills International Competition.
“Although it was a challenging competition, I really feel that I have been able to develop my skills and knowledge as an electrician.”
Returning home has not signalled the end of Mr Cobb’s affiliation with WorldSkills, having received an invitation to join the judging panel at the next round of regional competitions starting in the coming weeks.

“He has been on an amazing journey over the last 12 months, being in numerous competitions and training camps, all while continuing to complete his apprenticeship with us.
“The WorldSkills program is a wonderful opportunity for our apprentices and I hope his journey inspires others to strive for similar successes in their trades.”
