A TRUCK driver suffered a significant leg injury when his vehicle crashed and burst into flames on the way to the Port of Brisbane on Monday morning (1 September), as reported by Seven News.

Police and an off-duty paramedic provided immediate aid, applying a tourniquet to control bleeding before ambulance crews arrived. Firefighters extinguished the truck fire in 30 minutes, with the incident causing extensive peak hour traffic delays.

Port Drive near the Port of Brisbane Motorway off ramp was closed for several hours as a result.

A Port of Brisbane spokesperson said Queensland Fire Department Emergency Services attended as it occurred on Port Drive, managed by Department of Transport and Main Roads (DTMR).

The Fire Department advised that a prime mover and a container were fully engulfed in flames by the time their nine crews arrived at the scene.

The Forensic Crash Unit is still investigating the incident.
