FOLLOWING the departure of long-serving David Fethers last week Boluda has appointed Ian Spanjic as the new managing direct of the business in Australia and Papua New Guinea.
Mr Spanjic will be well-known to the local industry, having served as Svitzer Australia’s Sydney-based chief operating officer from July 2017 to March 2023 as global head of Green Ports under the Svitzer banner until January 2024.
He then became marine services director for the Saudi Arabian port of Neom. Earlier in his career Mr Spanjic worked for Maersk and MSC.
Announcing the appointment, Boluda’s CEO Asia Pacific Wouter Nieuwveld CEO Asia Pacific said Mr Spanjic brings more than two decades of maritime, port services and commercial leadership experience to the role.
“In his new role, Ivan will oversee operations across the company’s Australasian footprint, including harbour towage, terminal support and offshore services supporting key energy, mining and port infrastructure projects,” Mr Nieuwveld said.
Mr Spanjic said he was honoured to join Boluda Towage at such an important moment for the maritime industry.
“I look forward to working with our talented teams and partners across Australia and Papua New Guinea to continue delivering safe, efficient and innovative marine services," he said.
David Fethers served as MD for Australia and Papua New Guinea since 2016. “During his tenure, David oversaw significant operational growth and strengthened partnerships with port and terminal customers,” Mr Nieuwveld said.
“We thank David for his outstanding leadership and commitment to the business over many years. His contribution has been instrumental in strengthening Boluda Towage’s reputation as a trusted marine services provider in Australia and Papua New Guinea.”
