FIVE crewmembers of the bulker Imabari Queen have tested positive to COVID-19, Maritime Safety Queensland has confirmed to the DCN.
Maritime Safety Queensland acting general manager Andrew Mahon said the vessel is currently at anchor off Skardon River, far north Queensland waiting to load bauxite.
“The vessel is not permitted to berth, and no one is permitted to board or disembark,” Mr Mahon said.
“Maritime Safety Queensland and Queensland Health are working closely to develop a plan for management of the vessel and crew. The health of all the crew members and protection of the Queensland community remain of the utmost importance.”
The Queensland chief health officer said today the seafarers are being monitored by Queensland Health.
A decision is yet to me made as to whether the seafarers will need to come ashore for treatment in a hospital.
Imabari Queen is flagged in Panama and has a carrying capacity of 60,405 tonnes DWT.
