DREWRY’S World Container Index deceased by 0.9% this past week, but it remained 60.3% higher than it was one year ago.

The average composite index of the WCI, assessed by Drewry for year-to-date, is US$8965 per 40-foot container, which is US$5708 higher than the five-year average of US$3257 per 40-foot container.

Freight rates on Shanghai to Rotterdam dropped 2%, or US$213 to US$10,364. Shanghai to New York fell 1%, or US$124, to US$11,229 per FEU.

Similarly, rates on Shanghai to Los Angeles slid US$24 to reach US$8758 per FEU.

Rates on Rotterdam to Shanghai, Shanghai to Genoa, Los Angeles to Shanghai, New York to Rotterdam and Rotterdam to New York hovered around previous week’s level.

Drewry expects spot rates to remain stable in the coming weeks.
