More inbound freight rate rises from Asia, Europe

MEDITERRANEAN Shipping Company is the latest carrier to announce rate changes, with increases for all container cargoes from Asia to Australia and New Zealand.

From 1 October general rate increases (GRIs) will apply as follows:

• From China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Korea and Japan to Australia, US$300/teu
• From Bangladesh, Cambodia, Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam to Australia, US$150/teu
• From China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Korea, Japan, Bangladesh, Cambodia, Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam to New Zealand, US$300/teu

MSC previously announced an identical set of GRIs applicable from 1 September and 1 August in the same trades.

Earlier last week Hapag-Lloyd announced the same rate increases.

Separately, on Friday CMA CGM announced increases in FAK rates of US$250/teu for dry containers and $500/teu for reefers from North European, Black Sea and Mediterranean base ports to Australian and NZ main ports. The rises take effect from 1 October.
