MARITIME industry leaders from around Australia and overseas gathered at the Ports Australia Biennial Conference in Brisbane this week. The event was built around the theme of “Risk and Resilience”.

Among the highlights were presentations from Gina Cass-Gottlieb, chair of the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission, and from productivity commissioner Stephen King.

In other news, Toll Shipping in Tasmania announced it is becoming an independent company from Toll Global Express and has changed its name to Strait Link.

And an investment consortium pulled out of a $1.2 billion deal to acquire GeelongPort after the ACCC raised concerns around competition in Victoria’s bulk ports.
