Disruption to Tasman, SoPac services

AUSTRALASIAN near-seas services have been hit by unplanned disruptions at an inconvenient time for shipping lines and their customers.

ANL has been obliged to withdraw the ANZ Shuttle’s ANL Tasman Trader after the 1,096 TEU vessel suffered "technical issues" in Auckland over the weekend necessitating a full discharge, before the ship heads to drydock in South China for repairs.

“At this stage, we have not yet identified a replacement vessel for ANL Tasman Trader,” the line said in a shipper advisory.

“As a result, the position of ANL Tasman Trader from voyage v2630 will be blanked. The ANZ Shuttle service will temporarily operate with one vessel, the ANL Kiwi Trader while the ANL Tasman Trader undergoes repair operations.”

Consequently:

  • New Zealand exports currently booked on ANL Tasman Trader v2630 will be moved to ANL Kiwi Trader v2632.
  • All New Zealand export bookings from ANL Tasman Trader 2362 onwards will be moved to the corresponding ANL Kiwi Trader sailing (v2630, v2632 etc).
  • All Australia/Noumea exports from ANL Tasman Trader v2631 will be moved to corresponding ANL Kiwi Trader sailing (voyage v2631, v2633 etc)

“We expect the ANL Tasman Trader to return to the ANZ Shuttle service at the end of October once the repairs are completed. The WPAC service will also be utilised for any overflow cargo,” ANL said.

The Panama-flag ANL Tasman Trader is chartered from Greece’s Erasmus Shipinvest and was built in 2022 by Japan’s Kyokuyo Shipyard Corporation.

Meanwhile, Neptune Pacific has had to implement schedule rectifications for August/September after Capitaine Tasman v2628 experienced significant delays due to operational issues and berth congestion encountered on its current voyage, meaning it is unable to make Tauranga and Auckland berthing windows.

Additionally, the New Zealand berthing windows of Capitaine Tasman v2632 and Neptune Matua v2633 are now close in proximity.

To rectify the schedule, Neptune Pacific will be making the following changes:

  • Capitaine Tasman v2632N will delay the start of its voyage, arriving in Tauranga on 1 September to then perform a normal rotation.
  • Neptune Matua v2633N will be deferred by one week. During its current voyage 2630S, it will call Auckland Multi-Cargo on 4 September to discharge imports, load some exports and then proceed to Tauranga on 5 September to discharge imports only. It will then proceed to anchorage before commencing voyage 2633N in Tauranga on 8 September.
  • Capitaine Tupaia v2634 will start in Tauranga the following week on 15 September. On voyage 2629S, it will call Tauranga on 10 September to only discharge imports and then proceed to anchorage.

Neptune Pacific says its bookings team are making the necessary adjustments to ensure Fiji transhipment cargo make onward connections and will contact impacted customers.
