Fremantle Ports sponsorship ranges from radio to dolphins

A COMMUNITY radio station operating from a container on Victoria Quay and refurbishing the research boat used to monitor local dolphin populations are just two of 12 community investments Fremantle Ports has approved for this quarter.
The port partners with local community groups through its Community Investment Program, each year supporting more than 40 community organisations in the Fremantle, Kwinana and Rockingham areas.
Communications and community manager, Neil Stanbury, said Fremantle Ports was committed to nurturing local communities to ensure they remained strong, vibrant and healthy.
‘‘We’re continually impressed by the applications received, which makes it difficult to make final choices, however the initiatives or organisations supported this quarter were all exciting and we look forward to seeing these projects take shape and grow connections for people in our community,” he said.
The current round of supported projects includes Fremantle Broadcasting’s A home at Victoria Quay – with its FreoCast broadcasting digital community radio 24 hours a day, seven days a week, from their new container home at the west end of E Shed.
The port will partner with the Catalpa Sunset Concert’s the Catalpa Festival on the Rockingham Foreshore which links community with captivating maritime history.
It will also support the Cockburn Community & Cultural Council Inc’s Youth Arts Festival, a popular event for young people in Cockburn, providing an opportunity for young artists to showcase their talents and participate in workshops and performances.
Fremantle Ports will help the Western Australian Fishers Lost at Sea Memorial Association’s WA Sea Organ Memorial to further explore establishing the memorial.
On a sporting note, the Western Australian Marathon Club’s Fremantle Ports Harbour Master Classic Fun Run will be a family friendly sporting event for Victoria Quay and the South Fremantle Football Club which will be celebrating 125 years, linking two iconic Fremantle brands in this milestone celebration and continuing the port’s long association with local football clubs.
At the Rockingham Senior High School’s Maritime Scholarships and Education Support Centre end of year awards the port will support students who achieve academic or work placement success.
St Patrick’s Community Support Centre’s Imagined Future deepens connections for Aboriginal children in care with their siblings, the wider Aboriginal community and to Aboriginal culture.
Leeuwin Ocean Adventure Foundation Ltd is relocating the Leeuwin office to the east end of E Shed on Victoria Quay.
The port will take naming sponsorship of the Business Person of the Year category at the Rockingham Kwinana Chamber of Commerce - RKCC Regional Business Awards and will also be a sponsor for the Fremantle Chamber of Commerce’s annual business awards.
Refurbishing Murdoch University’s research boat to continue monthly scientific dolphin surveys for its Dolphin Watch research program in the Swan and Canning rivers and adjacent coastal waters with sponsorship that includes an opportunity for an Indigenous student internship.
Fremantle Ports considers community investment applications quarterly, usually covering the full spectrum of cultural, community enrichment, sporting, education and the arts with the next funding round closing 30 June 2025.
