FREMANTLE Port is again battening down its hatches as it prepares for what it expects to be an extended period of adverse weather.

In a shipping agent's memo the Port said it is preparing for adverse weather from 3 September to 7 September

It says while the brunt of this front will be felt on the south coast, there is a significant impact being forecast for Fremantle.

“To ensure good risk management during the adverse weather and in the interests of Port, Terminal infrastructure and Vessel safety, the following will be implemented in preparation for the adverse weather.

“Vessels at the FPA Inner anchorages – All vessels at Gage Roads, ORAN and ORA anchorages are required to proceed to Sea.

“This requirement is based upon forecast wind force and prolonged directional impact expected at these anchorages.

“All charges for pilotage and towage shall be to the vessel’s account. Vessels required to proceed to sea will be instructed to do so by Fremantle VTS.

“Vessels at the FPA Outer anchorages - All vessels except the Maersk Monte Lascar are required to heave anchor and proceed to sea for the period of impact.

“All vessels at Cockburn Sound berths (KBT, KBJ, ALCOA, ORJ, KGJ, AMC) are expected to evacuate their respective berths.

“Vessels evacuated from KBB3, KBT (KBB2) and KGJ shall proceed to anchorages while all other vessels shall proceed to sea as instructed by Fremantle VTS. Fremantle Ports’ scheduling team will keep agents informed accordingly. All charges for unberthing/berthing, pilotage and towage shall be to the vessel’s account.

“Inner Harbour berths - In consultation with the Terminals, we are currently orchestrating the activities of all vessels to clear all berths in preparation of this weather front.

“Preparations for and the vessel evacuation process for the adverse weather will commence today - 3rd September 2025.”

The memo said weather forecasts are being frequently monitored and any changes would be communicated, including notifications regarding resumption of berthing of vessels.

“It is important that all vessels evacuating from the port are required to stay well clear of Fremantle Ports’ approaches and the surrounding coastal areas,” the memo said.
