WE NOTE with some beggared belief the announcement by DP World of yet further increases in the port access charges and wonder which parallel universe they inhabit.
At a time when people are being put out of work, accepting reduced salaries and wages, banks taking a moratorium on interest payments and various landlords waiving onerous conditions a multi-national stevedore who has lost no work sees fit to announce yet another, dare I say “dubious”, increase.
Given the pain that so many sectors of the economy are experiencing and will continue to experience, a reduction in some fees and charges would be seen as a more appropriate action.
