ACTING TasPorts chief executive officer Captain Allan Gray has been appointed to the CEO position after the company searched for a replacement for Anthony Donald, who announced last December he would be stepping down.

The highly-experienced Capt Gray was brough on board in March this year to provide stability while a new CEO was sought and transitioned to the top role.

Chair Greg McCann announced today [19 June] that Shareholder Ministers had approved the Board’s recommendation to extend his appointment as CEO through to 1 December 2027 and was pleased to retain a leader of Capt Gray’s calibre.

“Capt Gray was initially appointed to provide leadership continuity while the Board undertook a comprehensive and competitive recruitment process for the permanent CEO role,” Mr McCann said.

“Following completion of that process, and based on Capt Gray’s performance leading the organisation, the Board determined that retaining him provides the strongest outcome and is in the best interests of TasPorts.

“We are fortunate to have secured Captain Gray’s experienced maritime leadership as TasPorts progresses a significant program of infrastructure investment, operational improvement and strategic delivery.”

Captain Gray brings more than four decades of maritime and port experience and has provided strong strategic direction, operational leadership and stability since his initial appointment, the GBE said.

Mr McCann said continuity of experienced leadership was critical as TasPorts continued delivering major projects and strategic priorities that support Tasmania’s trade and economic growth.

“The Board will undertake a future recruitment process ahead of the conclusion of Captain Gray’s tenure to ensure TasPorts' next phase of leadership aligns with the organisation's future needs and strategic direction. At present, the Board's focus is ensuring TasPorts continues to benefit from Captain Gray’s expertise and leadership during this important period.”
