TRANSPORT logistics provider Realterm has announced "practical completion" of a hardstand for stacking fully loaded shipping containers.
The 23,000 sqm stand is at 77 Governor Macquarie Drive, Chipping Norton, in southwest Sydney.
The area was built for intensive container operations and offers high-load capacities of up to 125 tonnes stacked up to five-high.
Container Transport Alliance Australia director Neil Chambers said the hardstand was the result of a "unique investment" combined with location, with close proximity to major freight routes.
"It's an expensive exercise to be able to rate it to over 125 tonnes, so that you can easily stack full container loads on the site without it degredating in terms of the pavement strength," Mr Chambers said.
"The significance is the location. They've thought long and hard about what would attract the container logistics industry."
The stand is situated on a B-double approved road, with access to the M5 and M7 connecting it to Port Botany, Moorebank Rail Intermodal, Enfield Rail Intermodal and the Hume Highway.
CTAA alliance partner Harper Jack Haulage (HJH) has secured around 12,000 sqm for its container logistics services, including full container load (FCL) cartage, container storage, fumigation, as well as future consignment and quarantine services.
One of the factors for HJH was around the clock access to major infrastructure, allowing for improved operational efficiency, reduced transport costs, and facilitating rapid business expansion.
Global storage company Titan started its self-storage and container handling operations at the front of the site in May last year.
The balance of the hardstand is available for lease, accommodating the full range of port logistics activities, with areas from 4,000 to 10,000 sqm, on flexible lease terms.
