ORIENT Overseas Container Line (OOCL) has been recognised with a number of awards at industry events in Hong Kong and Shanghai in recent weeks.

OOCL was honoured at the Joint Luncheon cum Award Presentation Ceremony 2026 jointly organised by the Hong Kong Marine Department and the Hong Kong Shipowners Association (HKSOA) where it won three awards:

  • Award for the Shipowner Placing the Most Gross Tonnage (GT) on the Hong Kong Shipping Register (HKSR) in 2025.
  • Award for Outstanding Performance in Port State Control (PSC) for the Year 2025.
  • Award for Company Recruiting the Most Hong Kong Sea-going Cadets in 2025.

The event was organised to express appreciation for the support of shipowners and shipping companies and to promote the services of the HKSR and HKSOA and is one of the major annual events in the maritime industry in Hong Kong, OOCL says.

About 240 representatives from the maritime sector and distinguished guests attended the event this year.

“The Award for the Shipowner Placing the Most Gross Tonnage on the Hong Kong Shipping Register in 2025 reflects OOCL's continued support for the Hong Kong Flag. The Award for Outstanding Performance in Port State Control in 2025 affirms the company's strong expertise in ship management and its consistent commitment to high-quality operational standards.

"The Award for Company Recruiting the Most Hong Kong Sea-going Cadets in 2025 recognizes OOCL's ongoing efforts in nurturing young maritime talent in Hong Kong.

“OOCL is deeply honoured to receive these awards and remains committed to upholding high standards in fleet management, operational excellence, and talent development, while continuing to support the Hong Kong Flag."

Separately, at the 2026 Asian Freight, Logistics and Supply Chain (AFLAS) Awards held in Shanghai, OOCL was named Best Shipping Line — Intra Asia, marking the third time the company has received this prestigious recognition.

“Best Shipping Line — Intra-Asia award recognizes OOCL's outperformance in the region for its customers-oriented services and solutions, comprehensive service network, competitive freight rates and effective and easy-to use IT systems,” the company said.

The annual AFLAS Awards is hosted by leading shipping and logistics publication, Asia Cargo News, to recognize leading service providers in the shipping and logistics sector. Winners are determined from over 15,000 ACN readers and e-news subscribers, “making the results a true reflection of service user opinion”.

Shortly to be released by Hong Kong University Press is C.Y. Tung (1912-1982) and the Rise of Modern Chinese Shipping, a personal and business biography of the OOCL founder, written by Australians Howard Dick, an honorary professorial fellow in the Department of Management and Marketing at the University of Melbourne, and former diplomat and Asia shipping analyst Stephen Kentwell.

DCN will have further details and a review of this important publication shortly.
