HEAVY lift and breakbulk specialist carrier BBC Chartering Australia recently completed an unusual job in South Australia. The company moved a used Gottwald Mobile Harbour Crane weighing in at 329 tonnes from Flinders Port Holdings’ terminal in Adelaide to Port Pirie.

The cargo was transported with open hatches on the BBC Xingang, a general cargo vessel built in 2013 with a carrying capacity of 9.282mt dead weight and draught of 6.6 metres.

The lift was planned by BBC’s technical experts in Singapore and the execution was overseen by its Brisbane technical operations manager.

“BBC is happy and proud to have pulled of this heavy lift, especially with crew and shore labour co-ordinating and co-operating during difficult COVID-19 times,” the company said in a statement.
