ENGAGE Towage Sydney has been awarded a contract to deliver towage services for Carnival Australia’s operations in Sydney Harbour.

A joint venture between Engage Marine and Smit Lamnalco, Engage Towage was involved in the arrival of Pacific Explorer on Monday, using four tugs to escort the first international cruise ship to return to Australia in two years.

Under the contract, Engage Towage will be responsible for the berthing and departure of cruise vessels at Port Jackson in line with advertised cruise schedules.

Engage Towage director Mark Malone said the company was pleased to be awarded the contract.

“It is a reflection of three years of demonstrated 100% on-time service to Carnival Australia in Port Jackson,” he said.

“We welcome the opportunity to continue to deliver our safe and efficient towage services to Carnival Australia, and additionally, look forward to playing a supporting role in the return of cruise services into Sydney.”

Carnival Australia is the country’s primary cruise organisation and accounts for seven cruise lines, including P&O Cruises Australia, which frequent Sydney on year-round and seasonal bases.

Before the pandemic, the company’s brands accounted for more than 70% of the Australian and New Zealand cruise passenger market.

Other cruise lines operating under Carnival Australia, in addition to P&O Cruises Australia, include Carnival Cruise Line, Cunard Line, Holland America Line, P&O Cruises World Cruising, Princess Cruises and Seabourn.
