SAL Victoria lines up birdies

ENTRIES close this Thursday for the Shipping Australia Victoria 10th Annual Phil Kelly OAM Perpetual Golf Challenge, to be held at the Latrobe Golf Club the following Thursday, 14 May.

SAL Vic secretary Charles Masters describes Latrobe Golf Club as a beautiful course in the leafy suburb of Alphington, just 10 Km from Melbourne’s CBD. It is bordered on two sides by the Yarra River and lined by majestic Red River Gums.

Registration and a light lunch will be provided at 1200 with a shotgun start for the 4-ball ambrose at 1245. This will be followed by prizes and an early dinner.

Registration fee $1,295 for a team entry of four includes: Light lunch on arrival, green fees, two golf carts, silver sponsor with your company logo displayed on one tee, 1 dozen golf balls, on-course refreshments, bar and dinner following golf, and trophy presentation.

Then on Wednesday 20 May, to mark the 2026 IMO International Day for Women in Maritime, SAL and WISTA Australia are holding the annual panel lunch on Wednesday 20 May at the RACV Melbourne City Club.

The IMO’s 2026 theme, “From Strategy to Impact: Empowering Women in the Maritime World,” sets the tone for meaningful and forward-looking discussion, to be brought to life the 2026 panel of Dr Michelle Grech — Manager of Seafarer Certification Services, AMSA; Fleur Walsh — Head of Operations (Australia & New Zealand), A.P. Moller-Maersk; and Ekaterina Khramova — General Manager Timor Leste, ANL & CMA CGM and 2025 DCN joint winner — Women in Shipping & Maritime Logistics Award.

The event runs from midday to 2:00pm with the panel discussion taking place at 12:30pm — 1:30pm, followed by networking, Lunch will be a two-course meal with premium beverages included. The ticket price for SAL members is $130.

Last year’s event drew over 100 maritime, shipping and logistics professionals and generated vibrant discussion across the sectors, Sirisha Gunde, SAL deputy chair Victoria, said.

“We anticipate another memorable occasion and encourage you to secure your ticket early, as places are strictly limited. Your participation not only supports the advancement of women in maritime but also contributes to a more inclusive, dynamic and forward-thinking industry,” she said.
