The Northern Endeavour, located 550 kilometres northwest of Darwin in the Timor Sea, ceased production in 2020 following the collapse of Northern Oil & Gas Australia.
The Commonwealth assumed responsibility for the asset under the “trailing liability” provisions, with total decommissioning costs estimated between $1.2 billion and $1.8 billion.
Zenith’s win reflects its growing footprint in remote and off‑grid energy systems, with the company already supplying hybrid and diesel‑generation solutions to major mining and gas operations across WA and the NT.
The decommissioning program is expected to run through 2026–2028, with power system mobilisation beginning later this year. Offshore contractors, towage operators and heavy‑lift specialists are expected to be engaged as the FPSO is prepared for removal.
