SCT workers to strike for two hours as negotiations stall in WA

TRANSPORT Workers Union WA members at SCT Logistics will stage a two‑hour strike today from 2pm to 4pm WA time, escalating industrial action after negotiations with the company broke down.

The union confirmed the stoppage in a strike notice circulated to members, stating: “SCT workers striking for 2 hours – Thursday 8th of October, 2pm–4pm.”

The action follows earlier stop‑work meetings held this week as part of the bargaining campaign.

A post on TWU WA’s official Facebook page said SCT workers were “holding strong in their negotiations” and preparing for further action after talks failed to progress .

Workers will meet with TWU officials to review the company’s proposal, which the union says falls short on key issues including wage increases, superannuation improvements and job‑security protections.

SCT is one of Australia’s largest private rail and road freight operators, with significant east–west movements into Western Australia.

While a two‑hour stoppage is expected to cause short operational delays, the broader impact is likely to be felt through compressed terminal operations, minor schedule disruptions and ripple effects across time‑sensitive freight.

The dispute forms part of a wider national push by the TWU to lift standards across major transport operators during a coordinated bargaining year.

More than 200 enterprise agreements expire nationally in 2026, giving the union leverage across multiple companies and supply chains.

TWU WA said it would continue supporting members through negotiations and further action if required.
