FORMER ANL managing director Shane Walden has joined wholesale forwarder AGS World Transport as chief executive officer, effective today [18 August].

At the same time Terry Tzaneros, who has just succeeded his son Arthur as head of ACFS, has moved from executive chairman of AGS to chairman.

Mr Walden resigned from his position as managing director of ANL Container Line and CMA CGM Group Agencies Oceania while visiting CMA CGM headquarters in Marseille in May, with few details of the circumstances made public.

In a notice to customers distributed today AGS said Mr Walden brought more then two decades of international shipping and logistics leadership to AGS.

“He is an experienced CEO whose career has spanned Australia, Hong Kong and France, giving him a global perspective alongside a deep understanding of the Oceania trade,” AGS said.

“Shane has long been an advocate for customer experience, sustainability and workplace culture across our industry.”

Terry Tzaneros described Mr Walden as “one of the most capable operators in this industry. I have watched his career with admiration for a long time.

“AGS has been built over 40 years on relationships and on doing right by our customers, and I have no doubt Shane will carry that forward.”

Mr Walden said AGS "has an outstanding reputation in this market, built over four decades. I am looking forward to working with the team, and with our partners and clients, to build on that".

The AGS executive team remains unchanged and hence this appointment is about strengthening AGS for the years ahead, not changing what has worked for four decades, AGS said.

“Shane looks forward to meeting many of you in the months ahead. In the meantime, please contact your usual AGS representative with any questions.”

Mr Walden joined ANL direct from completing his degree at Monash University in 1999 and progressed through various positions: regional manager Asia (Hong Kong) 2006-2010, commercial manager, South East Asia, 2010-2012 (Melbourne), commercial manager, North & East Asia, 2012-2014 (Melbourne), general manager commercial, East-West trades, 2014-2019 (Melbourne), deputy MD, 2018-2020 and MD from 2020, following the recall of Xavier Eiglier to France.

He was initially replaced at ANL by Esra Bora, on 1 June, but she had to return to Turkey for personal reasons.  Since 1 August the position has been officially held by Neusa Marcelino.
