WALLENIUS Wilhelmsen says its Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry’s suspension of the company as an offshore biosecurity treatment provider applies only to heat‑treatment services at its Zeebrugge facility.

A Daily Cargo News article published on 6 October, reported DAFF had suspended Wallenius Wilhelmsen Logistics NV as an approved offshore treatment provider, citing “critical non‑compliance”, and that treatment certificates issued by the company would no longer be accepted.

Wallenius Wilhelmsen says the suspension applies only to heat‑treatment services at its Zeebrugge facility, following a DAFF audit, and does not extend to all offshore treatment services.

The company says fumigation and other approved treatments remain available, and its broader vessel operations and Australian‑based treatment services are unaffected.

In a statement to DCN, Wallenius Wilhelmsen said:

“The authorisation for heat‑treatment services at our Zeebrugge facility has been temporarily suspended following an audit by DAFF. Fumigation and other treatment services are still available. The suspension is limited to heat‑treatment services at our Zeebrugge facility and does not affect WW’s broader vessel operations, and local treatment services in Australia remain unaffected.”

The company said it was working closely with authorities to address the issue and restore authorisation “as quickly as possible while minimising disruption for affected customers”.
