GLADSTONE Ports Corporation has named St Vincent de Paul Society its 2019 beneficiary, contributing $2,000 to help the organisation’s efforts in providing hope where it’s needed most.
GPC Acting CEO Craig Walker said the funds will go directly to helping those affected by financial hardship, disability or illness.
“We believe Christmas should be a time of happiness and celebration with family and friends,” Mr Walker said.
“We are proud to be supporting the St Vincent de Paul Society’s Christmas appeal, ensuring families can be in their homes with dinner on the table this festive season.”
President of the Gladstone St Vincent de Pauls Society Peter Dougherty said the St Vincent de Paul Society was very grateful for the donation of $2,000.
“This donation will go directly towards the Christmas hampers which we will be distributing to needy Gladstone families prior to Christmas,” Mr Dougherty said.
“The putting together of these hampers does put a strain on our resources but we believe that it is essential that we provide this service as our hampers and gifts are in many cases the difference between children receiving something special for Christmas and nothing at all.
“The donation together with donations received from the Catholic community and our Catholic schools will see us ensure that more than 170 children receive at least one present on Christmas day plus some special foods to celebrate the day.
“At this time of the year it is easy to get busy in our own Christmas preparations and to forget that there are a lot of families doing it tough.
“Thankfully GPC hasn’t forgotten this, and on behalf of those we assist a big thank you for your kind donation.”
GPC has been supporting local charities at Christmas for the past 15 years through its Community Investment Program.
The Christmas donation program rotates between The Salvation Army, Anglicare Central Queensland, St Vincent de Paul Society and Uniting Care – Lifeline Gladstone.
