ANDREW Newman has been announced as the new executive director of Freight Victoria, filling a role that has been vacant since earlier in the year.
In a written statement, deputy secretary of the Department of Transport and Planning Adam Maguire said the appointment followed “an extensive recruitment process”.
“A familiar face to many of you, Andrew brings more than 20 years of experience across freight, ports, logistics and Victorian government transport policy,” Mr Maguire wrote.
“Since beginning his career in ports and marine, Andrew has built deep expertise across Victoria’s freight ecosystem and a strong reputation for leadership and trusted stakeholder relationships.”
He wrote that many would know Andrew Newman from his previous role as director, policy and strategy within Freight Victoria.
“His extensive departmental experience and sector knowledge position him well to lead Freight Victoria and continue delivering outcomes for Victoria’s freight and logistics sector,” Mr Maguire wrote.
“Andrew will start in the role of executive director Freight Victoria from 1 July 2026.”
“Andrew will focus on the continued implementation of the Victorian Freight Plan and Commercial Ports Strategy. He will be in touch when he commences as we continue working with industry on practical measures to support a modern, efficient and resilient freight network.”
Container Transport Alliance Australia director Neil Chambers welcomed Andrew Newman’s appointment.
“Andrew has extensive experience in freight policy development, in his former roles as director, policy and strategy, and in industry, covering ports, freight and intermodal developments,” Mr Chambers said.
“Industry has a good working relationship with Andrew, so we look forward to constructive dialogue with Andrew and his team within Freight Victoria into the future.”
Mr Newman fills the role vacated by Praveen Reddy, whose decision to seek new opportunities was announced earlier in the year.
Mr Reddy finished on 16 January to join AMES Australia, with Cameron Robinson acting as executive director in the meantime.
