BREAKING NEWS: Cape Falcon refloats

CAPESIZE bulker Cape Falcon, aground off Gladstone since Friday afternoon [18 September], appears to have floated off relatively unaided this morning.

Attended only by Boluda’s tug VB Kongo at the bow, the 182,066 DWT coal-laden ship is currently showing on AIS sailing north at 4 knots.

United Salvage was officially appointed as salvors yesterday and a third refloating attempt, after two unsuccessful efforts on Friday and Saturday (without salvor involvement) was scheduled for high tide this evening, c. 1900.
