A GRAND new logistics facility in the Sydney suburb of Banksmeadow has been hailed as an important step towards greater resilience in the Australian supply chain.
The new facility has been built for ‘Goldlead’ (Australia), a new brand that is part of COSCO Shipping.
Senior company executives were in Sydney this week for both the unveiling of ‘Goldlead’ (Australia), as well as the opening of the new premises.
COSCO Shipping executive vice president Zhang Feng said the event marked “another milestone in COSCO Shipping's journey across Oceania”.
“China and Australia have a solid trading partnership — one that's stood the test of time,” Mr Zhang said.
“Nearly 30 cents in every export dollar ends up in China. And our bilateral trade accounts for roughly a quarter of Australia's total international trade,” he said.
“That's not just complementary — that’s deeply integrated supply chains working for both nations.”
He said the company was focused upon greater use of digital technology as well as green, low-carbon operations.
This focus included deepening partnerships across the supply chain, advancing digital and intelligent supply chain platforms and honouring environmental, social and governance commitments.
“Goldlead (Australia) and this new Sydney facility are the next steps in that strategy,” Mr Zhang said.
“They strengthen our ability to serve this market, and they show our confidence in Australia's future.
“I'm confident that with COSCO Shipping's global fleet behind us, the worldwide network of our dual brands, and the trust of our customers and partners, Goldlead (Australia) has a remarkable future ahead.”

COSCO Shipping (Oceania) vice-president, Kang Chuanya, said the event marked “a significant new chapter” in the COSCO journey.
“Our mission is to provide more efficient and reliable services to our customers in Australia, to create greater cooperation opportunities for our suppliers and partners in Sydney, and to contribute greater value to the resilience of Australia’s supply chain and facilitate trade between China and Australia,” Captain Kang said.
Captain Kang spoke of the “long-held dream of establishing a dedicated logistics facility in Sydney” finally becoming a reality.
He said they were fortunate to live and work in an era of rapid growth in China–Australia trade, a time in which Chinese manufacturing was deeply integrated into everyday life in Australia and when profound restructuring was occurring in global supply chain and trade patterns.

COSCO Shipping Holdings executive director Tao Weidong said the establishment of Goldlead Oceania once again demonstrated the Oceania team’s commitment to implementing their strategic vision.
“As a Chinese saying goes, ‘though the journey may be long, persistence will take us to our destination; though the task may be difficult, dedication will ensure success’,” Mr Tao told the gathering.
“The successful opening of Goldlead Oceania today is only the beginning of our new journey.
“We will continue contributing to delivering Australian products to global markets and facilitating more high-quality Chinese products into Australia, creating greater value for trade and economic cooperation between our two countries.”
