ROAD Freight New South Wales has issued a statement confirming the passing of its former chairman and “longstanding leader” Frank Johnston.
Mr Johnston, who also ran Johnstons Transport, died last week after a period of ill health.
RFNSW CEO Simon O’Hara said the Johnston family were synonymous with service and Frank was a regular feature of the freight industry for more than 50 years.
“The Road Freight NSW Board and Policy Council (which Frank helped create as chairman) mourn his passing and pass on our condolences to his family,” Mr O’Hara said in a letter to RFNSW members.
“Jeff Johnston, one of Frank’s sons, took over from Frank to manage Johnstons some years ago and our thoughts are with him and the rest of the family during this time.”
Mr O’Hara said Frank’s dedication to RFNSW and its predecessors were well known and he worked closely with figures like Reg Mills and Tony McGrath among others.
“It is the case that without Frank and Johnstons Transport, this association would not exist today. Tony McGrath described Frank as a good friend and he was privileged to know him.”
