THE QUEENSLAND government has announced it has delivered a new trade and investment office in the Vietnamese capital of Hanoi.
This makes Queensland the first Australian state with a dual-city presence in Vietnam.
“This move is backing our exporters, creating jobs and we’re delivering more opportunities for Queenslanders—from beef producers to tech innovators and more,” state trade minister Ros Bates said.
“From beef producers in Central Queensland to tech innovators in Brisbane, we’re opening doors to new markets and new jobs, with boots on the ground, so we can deliver a better lifestyle through a stronger economy. “
Ms Bates said the government was focused on delivering “a stronger economy that gives every Queenslander a better lifestyle”.
According to the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, two-way trade between Australia and Vietnam was valued at $28.8 billion in 2024.
Australia and Vietnam held a Trade Ministers' Dialogue, on 5 March 2024, providing a platform aimed at enhancing the trade and investment relationship between the two nations.
“Vietnam's strong economic growth, a shift towards increasing trade openness, and expanding middle-class have increased demand for imports,” DFAT stated.
“This creates significant opportunities for Australian exporters of energy, dairy, meat, consumer goods, wheat and grains, cotton and wool, machinery, and professional services.”
According to DFAT, Australian agriculture and food exports have a strong reputation in Vietnam.
“Long-term trade and investment opportunities should increase in line with Vietnam's progress in implementing its trade commitments and administrative reform program,” DFAT stated.
According to the Queensland Department of Primary Industries (DPI), Queensland exported $15.6bn in total agriculture, fisheries and forestry commodities in 2024-25 as well as $8.4bn in “meat from bovine animals”.
