A CROCODILE on the ninth hole failed to prevent another successful Port of Townsville annual Charity Golf Day.
The golf day raises money for good causes and this year it was the Reef HQ Great Barrier Reef Aquarium Turtle Hospital that benefited to the tune of $10,000.
But the golfers had more than the usual hazards to overcome, with a small croc having moved in near the ninth hole, apparently washed down during the January floods.
According to a port statement, the money is to go directly to “helping the management and ongoing operational costs of the hospital”.
More than 100 people attended Rowes Bay Golf Course with local businesses also offering prizes for the day.
The theme was, appropriately for that part of the world, ‘tropical Friday’, which seemingly led to some creative interpretations.
Since its inception in 1996, the annual Charity Golf Day has raised more than $250,000. The golf day is an important community event, bringing the Port and business together to give to worthy causes.
