THE MOST-RECENT entrant in the ultra-competitive Victorian pilotage market has reached a milestone.
Poseidon Sea Pilots, part of the AMS Group, launched in Melbourne in 2022 with six pilots, some initially shared with the Brisbane operations, taking on the long-established Port Phillip Sea Pilots and the challenger APG, now Auriga.
PSP last week piloted its 1,000th different vessel, the ANL-chartered but confusingly-named Cosco Philippines employed on the AAX-S service, into and out of Patrick’s East Swanson Dock terminal.
For the transit from anchorage to berth, it was piloted by Captains David Porrett and Tim Fitzgerald with the photos capturing it at Port Phillip Heads, and alongside accompanied by Captain Dmitrij Secin.
“This significant moment is a great milestone for Poseidon Sea Pilots in Melbourne and getting to this point in time could only be achieved with the combined hard work from pilots, launch crew and operations staff,” PSP said in a social media post.
PSP’s market share has been gradually increasing and there are now nine pilots, with combined capability of serving Melbourne, Geelong, Western Port and Barry’s Beach. They are supported by two launches, Eyre and Trident.
“Critical to our success is the continued support of our customers and partners, in this case being CMA CGM / ANL,” PSP said.
