SCOTTISH company Zenith Energy has won the temporary power generation contract for the Commonwealth‑led Northern Endeavour Decommissioning Program.

The contract for one of Australia’s biggest offshore decommissioning efforts was confirmed through updates from the Northern Endeavour Transition Authority (NETA) which noted Zenith’s appointment to deliver modular power systems for the multi‑year dismantling of the Northern Endeavour FPSO.

NETA said the project requires a “safe, stable and reliable power supply” during well plug‑and‑abandonment, topside dismantling and eventual tow‑away of the vessel.

Zenith will design, construct and operate the temporary generation systems that support critical safety, lighting, pumping and control functions throughout the decommissioning phase.

The Northern Endeavour, located 550 kilometres northwest of Darwin in the Timor Sea, ceased production in 2020 following the collapse of Northern Oil & Gas Australia.

The Commonwealth assumed responsibility for the asset under the “trailing liability” provisions, with total decommissioning costs estimated between $1.2 billion and $1.8 billion.

Zenith’s win reflects its growing footprint in remote and off‑grid energy systems, with the company already supplying hybrid and diesel‑generation solutions to major mining and gas operations across WA and the NT.

The decommissioning program is expected to run through 2026–2028, with power system mobilisation beginning later this year. Offshore contractors, towage operators and heavy‑lift specialists are expected to be engaged as the FPSO is prepared for removal.
