Trade strategy highlights “purposeful shift”, Qld minister says

REENERGISING Queensland’s presence on the global stage is a key element of the state government’s Strategy 2026-2032, trade minister Ros Bates says.

The government’s strategy document was announced this week, identifying key markets and sectors for growth.

Ms Bates said Queensland had entered a new chapter defined by “disciplined economic focus, strong momentum and a clear commitment to ensuring all Queenslanders benefit from global opportunities”.

“A central part of this new direction has been re-energising Queensland’s presence on the global stage.

“Our Trade and Investment Queensland Strategy 2026–2032 signals a purposeful shift in the way Queensland connects with the world,” Ms Bates said.

“It sharpens the focus on building the right relationships, pursuing quality foreign direct investment opportunities and expanding the export markets for the thousands of Queensland businesses whose products and services are sought after around the world.”

Ms Bates said exports were “critical to Queensland’s economy, and the majority of our exporters are small, medium and family-owned businesses”.

“They are the farmers, manufacturers, innovators and service providers committed to delivering something better for their customers and communities.

“When they succeed globally, Queensland succeeds with more new jobs, stronger regional economies and new skills and technologies flowing into our state,” she said.

Also highlighted was global investment which was said to play “a critical role in driving Queensland’s economic growth”, bringing in capital, technology and collaboration with leading global companies.

“This strategy reflects Queensland’s renewed ambition. It is forward-looking and centred around the belief that trade and investment are essential to a stronger, more productive economy,” Ms Bates said.

“We are removing barriers, providing certainty and backing businesses that want to grow.

“With our industry partners, we will ensure Queensland’s reputation as a world-class place to trade, invest, study and work continues to grow and deliver real benefits for the people of Queensland.”
