MISSION to Seafarers Sydney is calling for support to help warm the hearts (and feet) of mariners via its Socks for Seafarers Father’s Day Appeal.
Donors automatically will be entered into the free draw to win a trip on an Engage Marine tugboat escorting a cruise ship through Sydney Harbour and out of Sydney Heads.
Sydney Mission chief executive Clayton Strong spoke of the benefits for seafarers.
"Knowing that someone cares about 'me' is so uplifting. It creates a moment to chat and share whatever is worrying each seafarer," Mr Strong said.
"Father's Day is a special moment to give a gift of socks and show care. Every seafarer has a father and many are fathers so this Father's Day we are showing that many people care about seafarers."
Mission to Seafarers principal chaplain Reverend Un Tay said supporting mariners on Father’s Day was timely given many felt the sense of separation from their own children.
“Celebrating Father's Day for seafarers is a meaningful way to recognise and appreciate the many seafarers who are fathers and breadwinners for their families," he said.
"Their dedication ensures their families' needs are met despite the physical distance and challenges of life at sea.”
Donations can be made before 1 September at the Sydney Mission website.
Every $20 donated equates to one ticket for the tug ride.
The winner is to be announced via social media after the draw at 2pm on Monday, 1 September.
Any additional funds are to go towards the Sydney Mission’s wellbeing work serving seafarers from more than 70 nations.
