VOPAK Terminals Sydney has received approval from the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) for the acquisition of leasehold land for the expansion of its Botany Bulk Terminal.
Vopak is a subsidiary of Dutch-based and listed Koninklijke Vopak N.V., a global infrastructure and logistics provider for storing and handling bulk liquids and gases.
Vopak operates a liquid fuel storage terminal at Port Botany, supplying liquid fuel storage and handling services to third parties.
According to the ACCC, Vopak does not import and distribute fuel itself but supplies port-side infrastructure for third parties to import, store and distribute their fuel products.
“Vopak proposes to build a new liquid fuel storage terminal at Port Botany and connect it with its existing terminal. The new terminal is intended for the storage and handling of jet fuel,” the ACCC stated.
“However, it may alternatively be used for the storage and handling of diesel fuel, depending on future market demand and operational requirements.”
Accordingly, Vopak has entered into an agreement for lease of land at 39 Friendship Road, Port Botany with Port Botany Operations Pty Ltd in its capacity as trustee of the Port Botany Unit Trust, for the purposes of developing the new liquid fuel storage terminal.
The land which is the subject of the proposed lease is currently unused.
