MANAGERS of the bulker MV Glarus have confirmed contact with pirates who took 12 crew members hostage last weekend.

The incident occurred off Bonny, Nigeria on Saturday 22 September.

In a statement, Massoel Shipping said they understood all crew were together and were well and unharmed.

“The MV Glarus is now safely alongside at Port Harcourt with the remaining seven crew members on board,” the Massoel statement read.

“Families are being kept in close touch with developments, the first and absolute priority being the safe release of the hostages.”

Massoel has said it will make no further comments on operational issues as “this could prejudice the safety of those being held”.
