New program to push hydrogen investment

THE recently re-elected Victorian state government has promised to invest $2m to boost development of clean hydrogen energy technology. Energy minister Lily D’Ambrosio has announced the Victorian Hydrogen Investment Program, which is to help bankroll several initiatives, including a grants program. The government says hydrogen from renewable technologies presents extensive export market opportunities, particularly to Japan and Korea.

The program is to fund investment in hydrogen research and trials and investigate ways to draw on Victoria’s increasing renewable energy resources. Energy minister Lily D’Ambrosio said hydrogen fuel could boost jobs in Victoria while helping tackle climate change.” “We’re investing in this emerging industry so that Victoria is at forefront of the transition to clean energy,” Ms D’Ambrosio said.
