SUSTAINABILITY and efficiency are key themes of Pacific International Lines’ latest 8200TEU dual-fuel container ship the Kota Ocean, launched with some fanfare at the PSA Terminal in Singapore.
The event was held in conjunction with Singapore's 60th anniversary celebrations.
The vessel was named by Ho Ching, chair of Temasek Trust, and is the sixth LNG dual-fuel vessel in PIL's fleet.
It is also the second in a series of four 8,200 TEU LNG dual-fuel box ships, designated as “O” Class, being built by PIL.
According to the company, these vessels are “pivotal to PIL’s strategy for renewing its fleet and enhancing operational efficiency and environmental sustainability”.
PIL chief executive Lars Kastrup said the naming of Kota Ocean represented a “significant milestone in our fleet renewal program, which further enhances our network deployment and operational capabilities to better serve customers”.
“Kota Ocean is our sixth newbuild LNG dual-fuel vessel delivered and demonstrates our dedication to sustainable shipping,” he said.
“PIL was the first Asian container shipping line to invest in LNG dual-fuel ships in 2022, and we have since ordered 18 new vessels, bringing us closer to our net zero emissions target by 2050, in alignment with Singapore’s net zero goal.”

The ship is to sail on PIL’s Southwest Africa service, connecting the Far East, from China to Singapore to Ghana, Togo, Nigeria and Ivory Coast, boosting trade links between Asia and Africa.
According to PIL, Kota Ocean joins sister vessel, Kota Oasis, which was delivered in April 2025
PIL says its newbuild vessels can use greener bio-methane fuels and are equipped with engines fitted with advanced exhaust recycling technology.
