SEAFARER support group Stella Maris has put out the call for donations to help restore the roof on its Melbourne facility.
Stella Maris Melbourne manager Lee Anne Diano said the organisation was seeking to raise more than $200,000 as part of its Raise the Roof fundraising campaign.
“Stella Maris Melbourne has been operating from our current building for 54 years, providing a welcoming and supportive environment for seafarers who arrive in Melbourne, often thousands of kilometres away from their families and loved ones,” Ms Diano said.
“For many, Stella Maris is a home away from home.
“Unfortunately, our building is now facing a major challenge. Our roof is in urgent need of significant repairs, with leaks and water entering the building during heavy rain and storms.”
Ms Diano said the campaign aimed to help secure a future for the centre.
“As a charitable organisation, we rely heavily on the generosity of our supporters, volunteers and the wider community.
“Raising this amount is a significant undertaking, but we are determined to protect a building that has been part of Melbourne's seafarer welfare community for 54 years," she said.
“We hope that sharing our story will raise awareness of the important work Stella Maris does and encourage individuals, businesses and organisations to support our campaign.”
She said every contribution, no matter how large or small, would make a difference.
Donations can be made here with donations of $2 or more being tax deductible.
